Our Favorite Must-Grow Dahlia Varieties- These are Included in Our 2025 Tuber Sale - Beginning 2/14/25!
One of the ultimate late-summer and early fall showstoppers of the flower farm is undoubtedly the magnificent dahlia. These beautiful flowers are cherished by flower growers, passionate flower gardeners, and everyone in-between due to their incredible variety of colors, sizes, and shapes, not to mention their unsurpassed beauty that truly captivates all who encounter them.
Since there are so many varieties out there to grow this guide was meant to highlight our favorite must-grow dahlias. We focus on abundantly blooming varieties with long lasting vase life. another important trait is the production of tubers and the ability of the tuber to store well over the winter to be divided and replanted in the spring.
There are 42 species of dahlias and hundreds of hybrids so it can be overwhelming to find the best options. That is why I want to share our favorite dahlia varieties that we grow at Harvest Moon Flowers.
White Onesta
An absolutely stunning Waterlily Dahlia, the 'White Onesta' boasts creamy white petals with a lime center. This is a highly prolific bloomer that also produces quite a clump of tubers each season to divide, share and replant!
Boom Boom White
This pure white ball type dahlia is an absolute classic and incredibly useful and popular in wedding and event design. With an ever so slightly green center and clusters of blooms it insane elegant choice for any garden. This variety also produces lots of tubers each season.
Cornel Red and Cornel Bronze
These ball type dahlias are some of the longest lasting blooms in the dahlia world. Cornel bronze is a bronzy orange color that accents so many colors and is just a great over all fall color. Cornel red feature dark cherry red petals that have a velvety texture. Both types produce long stems great for cutting. They are also both prolific tuber producers and will reward you for years to come if you divide them each season.
Strawberry Cream
Dahlia Strawberry Cream is a decorative dahlia variety that brings a delightful blend of soft pink and creamy white hues to the garden. Each bloom features a cream-white base with a strawberry-red heart, creating a harmonious and eye-catching display. Many variations in color appear on each bloom making each one unique. This one also produces many tubers each season.
Crichton Honey
Dahlia Crichton Honey is a warm apricot beauty and a favorite with designers and market customers. Blooms are weather resistant. Though plants are on the shorter side, if pinched early they will produce a bumper crop of flowers on long, strong stems that are excellent for cutting.
Mystery Tubers!
Last but certainly not least is my favorite dahlia of all- the mystery dahlia! This could be any of the dahlias on our farm and the best part is, they are marked down because we aren’t sure what they are!
